Find a scent you'll love: a kirri scent-matching guide

Most people find one kirri scent they love and then stall on what to try next. This guide is here to help. For each of our popular scents we've picked two or three others that share key notes, so the next bottle feels familiar without being the same thing again.

A tip before you start: a 50ml room spray or a 15ml oil in an Element diffuser is an easy way to test a new scent. Once you know you love it, move up to a reed diffuser or a 100ml Aura oil.

If you love Santal Woods

Santal Woods (formerly Santal 66) is creamy sandalwood and Virginia cedar with cardamom, papyrus, violet, iris and amber.

  • Rose Gold: the same cedar and amber warmth, with saffron, jasmine, fig and resin on top. A little richer and more floral.
  • Fig Tree: cedarwood and musk in common, with fresh fig, citrus and lavender for a greener feel.

If you love Botanical Gardens

Botanical Gardens opens with bergamot and orange blossom, then rose, peony and jasmine over cedarwood, amber and musk.

  • Rose Gold: shares the jasmine and cedar, with saffron and amberwood for a deeper evening feel.
  • Country Linen: rose and jasmine at the heart, with lemon, peach, sandalwood, honey and tonka bean. Lighter and more everyday.

If you love Bondi

Bondi is mandarin and watery ozone with green cardamom, black pepper and soft musk.

  • Coral: another fresh citrus opening. Bergamot and pink pepper, eucalyptus, white flowers and violet, then benzoin, modern woods and white musk.
  • Zen Garden: water fruits and a soft musk base, with peony, lotus and iris. Quieter and more floral.

If you love Dream

Dream is citrus and bergamot, jasmine and tea, finishing on musk and amber.

  • Country Linen: lemon, rose and jasmine, then sandalwood, honey and tonka. Softer and more everyday.
  • Botanical Gardens: bergamot and jasmine in common, with orange blossom, rose and peony.

If you love Zen Garden

Zen Garden is peony, water fruits, lotus and iris over driftwood and musk.

  • Bondi: watery ozone and soft musk, with mandarin, cardamom and black pepper.
  • Coral: white flowers, violet and white musk give it the same airy, clean finish.

If you love Kiwi Coconut Vanilla

Kiwi Coconut Vanilla is pineapple, apple and coconut, softened by kiwi and vanilla.

  • Dream: citrus and bergamot over musk and amber, for a sunny feel without the sweetness.
  • Country Linen: peach and honey give it the same soft sweetness, with rose, jasmine and sandalwood.

  • Botanical Gardens: jasmine, cedarwood and amber in common, with more flowers.

If you love Country Linen

  • Santal Woods: amber and woods in common, creamier and less smoky.
  • Rose Gold: amber, resin and cedar for a similar warm evening feel.

How to test a new scent before you commit

  • Give it time: scent it in one room, then come back in an hour or two. The top notes fade within minutes; the heart and base notes are what you'll live with
  • Test where you'll use it: room size, airflow and existing smells all change how a scent comes across
  • Try a few at once: the discovery kit has a 2ml sample of each iconic scent. Our samples guide explains how to test them
  • Mind the strength: bondi is our lightest at 1/5 and fig tree our strongest at 5/5. See the scent strength guide

Choosing for someone else? Look at the perfume, candles or grooming products they already use, and match the family. Fragrance families explained shows where each scent sits.

Choosing a format for your next scent

  • Room spray (50ml): the easiest way to try a scent before you commit. Browse room sprays.
  • Reed diffuser (200ml): no flame and no power, and typically lasts 1 to 6 months. Browse reed diffusers.
  • Element with a 15ml oil: typically 1 to 3 months per bottle, with intensity set in the kirri app.
  • Beacon or Pillar with a 100ml Aura oil: typically 6 to 12 months per bottle, for larger or open-plan rooms. Browse all oils.

Christmas and Christmas Pudding are seasonal, so availability changes through the year. If you can't find a scent, email help@houseofkirri.com and we'll point you to the closest match in stock.

Base notes of sandalwood, musk, and Amber are infused in this accord, leading to a sensual background and exquisite aroma.

Rose Berry Oil (15ml)

As described in the inspiration of this oil, "There is a sweet disposition in breaking the boundaries of vulnerability. Without such, we are stagnant, and life can appear bleak. But investing in colour through deconstructing personal barriers will inevitably bring what you seek."

The Scent Australia's Home Rose Berry diffuser oil is the colour you need to invest in to give you what you seek. The beautiful and sensual fruity accord of blackcurrant with rose petals is complemented with hints of fir needle, clove, lemon peel and musk to complete its sweet aroma.

Adventure Oil (15ml)

Suppose you are an adventurous spirit looking to go on a quest with your scent, then the adventure oil will be perfect for you. The bursts of Mandarin, Bergamot and blackcurrant take you to a heart of Pink pepper, jasmine and roses, leading to a highly sensual aroma and a touch retro that characterize this creation.

Middle notes of patchouli, sandalwood, oakmoss and American cedar complement this diffuser oil fragrance. Adventure oil is complete with a base note of Amber, vanilla and hyper-sensual musks that leaves behind a lasting and energetic scent.

Arabian Jasmine & Marigold Oil (15ml)

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, Arabian Jasmine & Marigold works to marry the notes of bright florals with the precious delicacies of jasmine. Jasmine Sambac heroes this scent, with blossoms hand-picked for fragrant infusion.

A middle note of energizing marigold is infused in the mix to accompany this scented account. Base notes of Ylang-Ylang, Honey and Benzoin complete the ArabianJasmine & Marigold Oil soft fragrance. Comparable to the gloss of a white pearl, the delicate scent can relax a room and offer an invisible embrace to those that step foot in its presence.
